This simple, delicious dessert is fun to make and even more fun to eat! Make it on the grill, in your oven, or your next camping trip. It is infinitely customizable, easily doubled (or tripled!), and guaranteed to please.
1. Prep and set up your ingredients to fill the bananas.
2. Place bananas on the counter with the end tips facing up to find their balance point, then slice each one lengthwise through the top peel and into the banana, but not all the way through to the bottom peel. Gently pull the banana apart to create a small bowl.
3. Stuff each banana with desired ingredients, adding more or less of the suggested amount to fit your bananas and taste. Start with dried fruit first, if using, then nut butters, chocolate, and marshmallows, followed by crunchy things like nuts, shredded coconut, graham crackers, etc. If cooking over an open fire, reserve ingredients that could get soggy (such as graham crackers and pretzels) for topping after cooking.
4. For grill: Preheat grill to medium (~350°). Once hot, carefully place the bananas between the grill grates, cut side up. Cover the grill and cook for about 10 minutes, or until the filling is melted and gooey and the banana has just softened.
5. For oven: Preheat oven to 400°. Place the bananas on a baking sheet and carefully transfer to the oven, keeping bananas from tipping. Bake for about 10 minutes, or until the filling is melted and gooey and banana has just softened.
6. For campfire: Wrap bananas in foil, leaving some air space between the foil and the top of the bananas. (You can also wrap bananas in parchment paper and then wrap in foil.) Place bananas directly in the coals of a fire that has died down, for 5-15 minutes, or until the filling is melted and gooey and the banana has just softened. Top with reserved graham crackers or pretzels.
7. Enjoy warm with a spoon directly out of the peel.
